Want to create a Let Go Box in your own town, park, or favorite quiet spot? It’s easier than you think. This simple guide will walk you through the steps to create a durable, welcoming space for others to reflect, write, and release.
1: A Waterproof Box (Small to Medium Size)
We recommend a sealable plastic container with a secure latch.
Make sure it's water-tight and durable enough for the outdoors.
2: Supplies Inside the Box
- Index cards or small notepads.
- Pencils or pens (optional: mini golf pencils for size).
- Instruction card (download PDF below).
3: Label for the Outside
A sticker, tag, or laminated label that says: "Let Go Box." We reccomend using the label included in the PDF below.
4: Attachment Materials (Optional)
Paracord, zip ties, or velcro to lightly secure it to a tree, bench, or post.
Try to place it somewhere discreet but discoverable
Step 1: Choose the Right Spot
Look for a quiet park, trail, or overlook with a bit of foot traffic but not too expose.
Avoid busy or heavily watched areas (we want this to become a safe space and for the box to stay).
Step 2: Add the Note Inside
Include a handwritten or printed card that explains the purpose of the box. Here’s a simple example:
"Welcome to the Let Go Box.
This is a place to write down something you need to let go of.
A breakup. A regret. A loss. A goodbye. A hope.
Write it. Leave it. Or take one if you need it.
Everything you leave stays anonymous. Be kind. Be real."
Step 3: Place the Box
Gently secure it in a visible but sheltered area.
If you can, check in every other week to refill paper or pencils and see if it’s still secure.
Keep it simple and sincere.
Don’t worry about perfection—just start.
If the box gets full, you can collect the letters and preserve them. OR you can upgrade to a bigger box!
You can also make a version for indoor spaces like community centers, libraries, or college campuses if you get permission.
You're building a space where strangers can connect in silence, through shared experiences and quiet courage.
Let go. Leave behind. Move forward.
